The only equitable billing model.


Unique to Skypiom’s Knowledge Management System are “active” and “inactive” users. This transparent model of user management ensures that inactive user accounts are never purged, and in turn their data erased, and that active users can be managed based on your organisation’s requirements.

It is common practice for traditional LMSs to make provision for a specific number of user licenses, which you are then billed for irrespective whether all users make use of their licenses or not. Should you exceed your license count you are often required to recycle and thus delete existing licenses, resulting in a loss of the user’s (prior learning) information as well as the accompanying data.

The alternative to this may require you to commit to a larger number of user licenses, at greater expense, even though you are not utilising all user licenses due to inactivity. Sound familiar?

This is yet another aspect in which the KMS differentiates itself from traditional LMS: the KMS incorporates a flexible, transparent and customer centric user management protocol that is geared around sustainability: active users.

An active user is defined as a user who has accessed and / or has been enrolled into content on the KMS within 90 days preceding, including public users who have received a voucher at the behest of the customer. In other words: a user will remain active for 90 days post their last log-in onto the KMS.

While in active status a learner may, depending on permissions, consume as much content and complete as many assessments as they wish: access is unrestricted.

Conversely, after 90 days of inactivity an active user converts automatically to an inactive user and their license now becomes available for another user to consume. Inactive user’s data is retained indefinitely at no cost while the customer’s Service Level Agreement (SLA) remains in effect.

Should an employee return to the workplace, with the SLA still in effect, the employee can simply resume on their existing KMS account with all information retained in full.


Skypiom offers a multitude of monthly active user account options that are based on a sliding scale, with the minimum monthly commitment being 50 active users. The more active users that are committed to per month the more economical the KMS investment becomes.

You are welcome to exceed your minimum monthly active user commitment whereby each additional active user is charged only the per-user rate based on the minimum monthly commitment – there is no out of bundle penalty. Should you regularly exceed your minimum monthly active user commitment, our support team may present options for a higher monthly commitment that will in turn reduce the per-user rate.

It is thus imperative to consider the required number of active users based on the organisational needs. To illustrate this by way of an example, let us assume Company A has 1,000 employees and all 1,000 employees are required to consume content on the KMS at least twice a month. This would mean that all 1,000 users would remain active throughout the term, irrespective of how much content is consumed since all users would be active within a 90-day period.

Conversely, let us assume that Company B also has 1,000 employees and that employees are required to complete a battery of assessments only once per year. If planned smartly, Company B can enrol 250 unique learners per quarter into the assessments and thus would only require a minimum monthly commitment of 250 active users.

As can be seen, the active and inactive model is transparent, fair and set out towards the economic benefit of Skypiom’s customers.
